Age: Not as old as Ginger Baker. Ha ha!

Birthplace: Bolton, UK

Previous other bands include Riff Raff, Metallica tribute band Metalleeka, Stash , Escape (with Nige) and numerous other bands which enjoyed brief existences.

Gareth started playing drums in the early 70’s after hearing Ian Paice on Deep Purple’s ‘In Rock’ album. “His playing blew me away and I decided to take lessons straight away for two reasons. One, because I couldn’t play guitar as well as my mates who were starting a band. And two, I wanted to make sure that when they decided to look for a drummer for the band they would look nowhere else!”

Gareth’s influences cover all spectrums from the classic bands of the 70’s, the NWOBHM bands of the late 70’s and early 80’s through to the best rock and metal bands of today.

Gareth joined Marseille in late January 2010 after the band asked him if he would be interested in standing-in for Keith, who sadly had to stand down from the band due to family commitments. Gareth readily agreed and, after a couple of successful gigs, was offered the position full-time “which I was over the moon to accept.”

Gareth and Nige go back much further than either probably care to remember, certainly in excess of thirty years. Other than when Gareth stood in with Nige’s rock covers band Wolfpack for a couple of gigs in 2009 – as well as participating in Nige’s brief AOR venture ‘Escape’, at the back end of 2008 – this is the first time the pair have been involved together full-time musically in all that time.

“If somebody had told us 30 years ago that we’d be involved together in a band such as this I doubt either of us would have believed it,” says Gareth. “Just goes to show you can never tell what lies around the corner!”
